No Wayne It's Luka

In an effort to clear some valuable hard disk space on my ps3, I went back to playing Lost Planet shortly after finishing Dead Rising 2. I lost my save game file a while back after updating the patch for the game so in a way, I was starting anew again. It wasn't a big loss as Lost Planet had hardly anything to unlock upon completion something uncommon for a Capcom game.

The most worthwhile was the character Luka which you could unlock for play in the online campaign as well as in the story campaign, an exclusive addition to the ps3 version. In order to unlock her you would have to locate all the hidden target marks for any one of the difficulty modes. I decided to try and do so when I started playing the game again so I had to go back and re-do all the earlier missions I cleared. What I initially thought would be a pretty quick affair turned into a long obsessive hunt as I was more consumed with finding these target marks than enjoying the game. When I finally did locate all the target marks and unlock Luka, there was a huge sigh of relief but then a quick realisation of what's the point. The cut-scenes of the game are unaffected by this change and also the viewpoint of the game doesn't really show off the character model very well. Oh well at least I achieved a new unlockable this time around and can proceed to delete the game data off my hard drive.

Prepare to Go Ballistic

Blogging has its own perks too even if you are not a babe with a hundred visitors a day. So there i was dreaming up my post yesterday and finishing it up over the evening by posting the appropriate links to each item on my shopping list. I intentionally put links to each item from Play-asia because i knew they aren't available on Play anymore so it should be obvious why i'm eager to go down to Singapore to look for them. So there i was at Play-asia looking for the links and lo and behold, Stranglehold Collector Edition was back in stock again!
I immediately ordered it along with a little something else to make up the numbers so by this time week now, my Playstation3 should be busy again. Hopefully i would have finished Okami by then but it's really not necessary anymore as i realise there is little point to rush through a game like that. Stranglehold on the other hand is not, it's the kind of mindless fun that you can quickly rush through and pick it up again every now and again. It should make a nice little distraction before i settle down to play Lost Planet.

Lost for words

In the wake of Capcom's disappointing showing of quality Wii software during Captivate 08, i have started looking at possible PS3 titles that might interested me instead.

While MGS4 and DMC4 are sure to keep me occupied once i get my hardware, the truth is there are other titles that i would rather play first before moving on to those. Top on my list would be Lost Planet, a Capcom action adventure game that was ported from the XBOX360. The port received its' fair share of flak for not taking advantage of the delay and PS3 hardware in improving the visual and experience but despite all that, i would still very much want to play that game. I remember Onimusha being the first game i ever played on my PS2 and to me, Lost Planet is very much the Onimusha of PS3. Both games were produced by the father of Megaman, keiji inafune and featured the likeness of an asian celebrity, in this case lee byung hun.

Also playing a new game is always more rewarding than sequel, though sequels have their own charms as well. But unfortunately with the MGS4 release only days away and my hardware arriving bundled together with the game, it looks like i may very well have to play MGS4 first to keep up with my friends.

Looks like my encounter with the lovely Luka will just have to wait...
